OK! So you got your song(s) together; now what? You need to decide the type of recordings you want to do. Here are your choices:
Single Songs:
Single song recordings: Can be either a single artist/vocalist and instrument or with a small accompaniment. Each Single recording (not demo's) should meet Radio standards and ready to post on line (file format); or have hard copies made for distribution. Whether or not you use a studio or do it all yourself,You will be responsible for your Copyright Registration, PRO (performance rights organization), ISRC number and other entities. These responsibilities will be necessary for all recorded songs, whether singles, demo's, or EP/LP..
Demo Songs **Usually A specialty service **
Demo song recordings: Your demo is your calling card. Contrary to popular belief, demo recording doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. Demo songs (1-3 songs) are recorded for limited circulation or reference use rather than for general public release. However, you should still have a quality recording to capture the attention of your listener. A demo is a great way for a musician/songwriter to share their ideas in a fixed format, such as compact disc, digital audio files or USB Flash Drives. These USB drives are popular and convenient, they are also less bulky than a compact disk. Therefore, you can easily and inexpensively pass your ideas along to artists, producers, publishers and even other band members, your friends, or record labels.
EP & LP Album:
EP - Extended Play: Has too many songs on it to be a single, but not enough to qualify as an album. It's called an extended play because it's basically an extended single; 3 to 5 songs and twenty minutes or less.
In the United States, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) defines an EP as containing three to five songs or,
under 30 minutes.
LP - Long Play: Which is a full album. A minimum of 10 tracks or 45 minutes in length. This will usually keep one's attention.
Any more, ya lost them?
